Compensated Rx Lenses with Position of Wear
Using Freeform Digital Lenses allows our expert opticians to take into account Position of Wear, the discrepancy between how your glasses are positioned on your face compared to the lenses used to test your vision in the exam room.
In determining measurements such as lens tilt and centration errors induced by these fitting differences, the lens optimization software will deliver a recalculated prescription that compensates for this. The prescription values created are referred to as a Compensated Rx.
Pupillary Distance
One of the most common, but important measurements needed to make prescription lenses and determine where the optical center of a lens is relative to the geometric center. We use a digital pupillometer to measure the distance between corneal reflexes in 0.5mm increments and obtain a monocular digital readout of the value obtained.
Fitting Height
The fitting height or segment height measurement, along with the pupillary distance measurement, determine where the optical center of a lens which can be different from the geometric center. Head posture matters significantly and this measurement may need to be taken multiple times in sitting and standing positions.
Pantoscopic Tilt
Pantoscopic tilt refers to the angle at which eyeglass lenses are tilted downward from the vertical plane towards the cheeks. This tilt is crucial in optimizing the visual performance of lenses, reducing reflections, and ensuring that the lenses align properly with the wearer’s eyes.
Vertex Distance
Vertex distance is the space between the back surface of the eyeglass lenses and the wearer’s eyes. It is a critical parameter to consider, as changes in vertex distance can impact the effective power of the lenses. Proper adjustment of the vertex distance ensures that the prescription is accurately delivered to the eyes, optimizing visual clarity.
Face Form Angle
Face form angle refers to the angle formed by the eyeglass frame as it wraps around the wearer’s face. This angle is essential for ensuring that the lenses align correctly with the wearer’s eyes, minimizing distortion and optimizing visual acuity. Proper consideration of the face form angle contributes to the overall comfort and effectiveness of the eyeglasses.
